BOSUN’S LOCKER AND FYM MERGER STRENGTHENS BOATING BUSINESS IN SCOTLAND

 Established marine chandlery Bosun’s Locker is pleased to announce the March 1^st 2011 merger with long-running boat dealer and marine engineering company, FYM. The combination of two of the leading marine sales specialists in Scotland promises to enhance services and facilities to new and existing customers, providing one of the most comprehensive boating businesses in the UK, covering clothing, equipment, boat sales and engine repairs.

Port Edgar-based Bosun’s Locker is one of Scotland’s most successful chandleries offering a wide range of boating gear from clothing and accessories to engines and navigation equipment as well as boat sales and repair services. It has joined forces with boat dealer/importer and diving specialist, FYM, currently based in Grangemouth, to provide the boating community with high quality, customer focused boat sales, chandlery and repair.   

Together, the companies boast more than 70 years’ experience in the marine industry and the joint venture will allow them to offer a huge range of top quality brands to customers, including Finnmaster, Linder, Nord Star, Orkney, Quicksilver, Regal and Warrior. The combined business will become a Premier RIB centre for Avon, Zodiac and RibX, and will also supply the major outboard engine brands.

All of FYM’s services and experienced sales staff and accredited engineers will relocate to Port Edgar Marina alongside Bosun’s facilities. The FYM specialist dive shop will be integrated into Bosun’s chandlery while the diving air and nitrox service will be available in the boat showroom.

Bosun's Locker Managing Director Russell Aitken comments: “We are expanding our operation by adding a large workshop at the main entrance to Port Edgar Marina to accommodate the extended workshop team. This new facility and the addition of the experienced and highly skilled team from FYM will support our commitment to providing customers with the best boat and equipment sales and services available in the UK.”

The merger comes after the announcement that FYM’s Director, Keith Stewart, is soon to retire: “It was important to join forces with a company that complements what FYM does as well as improve customers’ access to new and existing products and services. A marina location with access to the water and a sailing school on site is the obvious place for our company to be and Port Edgar's planned new 20 ton boat lift makes the location extremely attractive.”

 FYM will make the full move to Port Edgar by the end of April, with the business continuing to operate under the two established brand names. To celebrate the merger, existing and prospective customers are invited to the annual Demo Weekend on Saturday, April 30^th and Sunday, May 1^st at Port Edgar Marina.
